Interdisciplinary Skin Tumor Conference
The NYU Interdisciplinary Skin Tumor Conference is once again up and running and we welcome the referral of your patients for consultation.
Below is some information about the conference, the types of patients who are appropriate for consultation and instructions on how to refer your patients.
Patients sent for consultation regarding diagnosis and management should have a pigmented lesion or other tumor of the skin. We encourage referral of patients with congenital nevi as we plan to expand our research efforts in this area.
The conference meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 8:30 AM in the Orentreich Conference Room, directly following the Multidisciplinary Melanoma Conference. We encourage the referring physician to attend the conference, though it is not required.
This multidisciplinary conference is attended by dermatologists and dermatopathologists with expertise in cutaneous oncology, pediatric dermatology, melanoma, and other pigmented lesions. It is also attended by members of the NYU Plastic Surgery Department. When appropriate, physicians from the Departments of Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology attend as well.
After the conference, the referring physician will receive a letter with a summary of our recommendations.
If you would like to refer a patient to the conference, please email Jennifer Stein (jas231@med.nyu.edu) or fax a clinical summary of your patient to (212)-263-8752. If the patient is appropriate for the conference, we will contact you and the patient to schedule an appointment. We will make every effort to see the patient at the next available conference. Because it takes time to arrange for the receipt of outside records and slides, please keep in mind that all outside material should be received at least 2 weeks before the conference to allow sufficient time for review.
Be sure to include the following details about the patient in your summary:
• Referring physician's name
• Patient's name
• Date of birth
• History of the present illness and other relevant medical history
• Description of physical findings (photos are appreciated if available)
• Biopsy results
• Details of any laboratory, imaging or other tests performed
• Clinical question you would like us to address in the conference
• Insurance information
• Contact numbers for the patient
• Your contact information
Please fax copies of other relevant clinical information, particularly any biopsy reports to
(212)–263-8752.
If any relevant biopsies have been done, the slides will be reviewed by NYU Dermatopathology, so please include all the information we will need to request the slides and have them reviewed at NYU (lab name, specimen number, date of biopsy, biopsy site, and patient insurance information).
Thank you for supporting the NYU Interdisciplinary Skin Tumor Conference.
