How you can make a difference
We are justifiably proud that the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology is known internationally for its innovative leadership in patient care, education and research. As we look to the future, we are prouder still that our department is uniquely positioned to become the model by which leading departments of dermatology are judged.
To maintain and build on our department’s tradition of excellence in the future, we must increase our investments in our greatest strengths: our people and our programs. Our goal is a bold one. To maintain our tradition of leadership, we must increase our endowment by $25 million.
The first steps have already been taken. In 1991, Ronald O. Perelman, a member of the NYU Langone Medical Center’s Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer of the Revlon Group, Inc., made a landmark gift to NYU. In recognition of the gift, NYU named our Department of Dermatology in Mr. Perelman’s honor. In announcing his donation, Mr. Perelman made the point that the “gift was an opportunity to give something back to dermatology, a field which has been extremely important to the success of the cosmetic industry.”
In setting our bold goal, we look to you, our alumni, patients, and friends, as well as private foundations, business and industry, to demonstrate your interest in our department and in the health of the public.
We hope you will consider being part of the tradition of excellence that has kept us at the frontiers of American medicine – and has meant so much to the health and well-being of people here in New York and around the world.
You may designate your gift for either our General Dermatology Endowment Fund or to an area that represents your personal interest. Current philanthropic initiatives include:
The Alfred W. Kopf M.D., Endowed Professorship in Dermatologic Oncology
Dr. Alfred W. Kopf
Dr. Kopf devoted 55 years of services to our department and to the field of dermatology. His boundless energy coupled with his attention to the fundamental details of every task he undertakes has brought him national and international recognition as a leading melanoma researcher and clinician, an educational innovator, a mentor, and an organizational superstar. Join grateful patients, colleagues and friends in ensuring that his legacy continues by helping to endow this fund.
The Irwin M. Freedberg Scholar Fund
Dr. Irwin M. Freedberg
In honor of the devotion of Dr. Irwin Freedberg (former Department Chair 1981-2005) to the department and to the field of Dermatology, this fund was establish to support career development of young faculty in dermatology, a goal that Dr. Freedberg realized was paramount to advance knowledge and insure our specialty’s future.
