Frequently Asked Questions
How much will this cost me?
Neither you nor your insurance will be charged for any of the research related care you receive as a participant in one of the clinical trials at the Dermatopharmacology Unit at NYU. You will not be charged for any laboratory testing or study medications you receive as a participant in a clinical study. The most common expenses incurred are for traveling to and from NYU.
Will I receive compensation?
Monetary compensation, while offered in some studies, is not offered in all. If a study offers monetary compensation, you will be paid after completing the study.
What happens if I get sick?
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Throughout the clinical study, you will be carefully monitored by the study physicians. If any abnormalities are detected or any adverse events occur, we will recommend further medical care and decide if it remains in your best interest to participate in the study.
How many visits are required?
The number of visits varies from study to study, ranging from weekly to monthly. Generally, most studies run for at least 6 to 12 months.
Is this dangerous?
All clinical studies pose some risk to a patient. We have minimized the risk by ascertaining that each study meets the stringent safety guidelines of our Institutional Review Board. Every patient on a clinical study is carefully monitored by the study physicians and patients will be withdrawn from a study if it is in their best interest.
Can I withdraw at any time?
Yes, if you are unhappy with the study or the care you are receiving, you may withdraw at any time.
